The programme

The evening

Kick-start your evening with a 60-minute Half Six Fix concert. Introduced by the performers, with screens in the hall to bring you closer to the action.

Dedicated to ‘The Beloved God’, Bruckner’s ninth and final Symphony was left unfinished upon his death in 1896 – leaving the three movements that are heard tonight. Living up to its divine dedication, this symphony contrasts epic walls of sound with moments of aching fragility. Ending with a brooding Adagio slow movement, the unfinished symphony acts as a poignant farewell from one of the most influential composers of the 19th century.

LSO Chief Conductor Sir Antonio Pappano will presents and conducts the Orchestra in this celestial symphony, offering insightful yet accessible commentary on the piece in his introduction.

The work of the Chief Conductor with the LSO is generously supported by Alex & Elena Gerko, and members of the Chief Conductor’s Circle.
